Plastic Bags Saved Trees

I have a theory, and it’s simple. Shopping bags saved trees. How?

According to my good friend wiki, plastic shopping bags were patented some time in 1965. One of its evolutions is the usual imprinted promotional plastic bags that you now see in groceries and stores nationwide (that sounded like a sales pitch, but I’m not deleting it). So in simple terms, it has been in existence for almost 45 years already.

Now, imagine that 45 years ago, custom imprinted promotional plastic bags were never invented. This means that paper would still have persisted. And where does paper come from? Trees. Smart answer.

That would have been four and a half decades of trees being cut down. With the ballooning population that’s happening, the trees lost would have been totally devastating. The global environmental debate now hounding the big guy in the white house would have emerged much earlier, and the effects of climate change would have been felt before we were born.

This goes to show that indeed, the material that composed those imprinted promotional plastic bags with logo somehow saved the trees from being totaled much earlier. Awareness groups say that plastics are the culprit for the mess, and I don’t agree with them.

It was a good invention, and we should thank the guy who made it. If there’s someone to blame, it should be the global population itself, and not the product. If we were not apathetic, we could have prevented what we are suffering from right now. Awards to the people who made the mess possible!
